There are 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac calendar, which change each year, one of which being the rat, and in the story of the race for the order of the Chinese zodiac, the rat was first. Being born in the year of the rat is considered a good thing as you are said to be smart, magnetic, well-liked, affable, quick-witted and calculating as well as surreptitious (sneaky), selfish, and protective.
